Ultra Mainline TechnologiesLow-altitude logistics systems research

Moving low-altitude transport beyond a single flight, toward sustained operations.

Getting airborne is only the beginning of low-altitude logistics.

Ultra Mainline Technologies researches low-altitude logistics systems, beginning with node handling, ground–air integration and route coordination. Our aim is to connect aerial transport with the full logistics process and develop transport capabilities that can operate repeatedly.

A Parcel's Journey

Flight is only one part of a delivery.

Before a parcel flies, it must be collected and loaded; after arrival, it must be received, sorted and delivered. We consider the work on both sides of the flight so that node operations, aerial transport and ground logistics fit together.

One handoff is followed by the next departure. We begin with handling and turnaround at each node, then connect the stages before and after it.

Nodes & Operations

  1. 01

    Automated Handling

We research automated receiving, loading and release so a node can support recurring operations rather than a one-off transfer.

  2. 02

    Ground–Air Integration

We study how cargo moves among ground vehicles, nodes and aircraft, with upstream and downstream logistics connected.

  3. 03

    Route Coordination

We study scheduling and batch organisation to align node turnaround with the surrounding transport process.

Systems Design

Research begins at one node, but is not limited to one node.

We work from the entire logistics task and adapt the resulting systems to real platforms, locations and operating needs.

Current Stage

  • Research and development
  • System architecture and engineering design
  • Industry dialogue and validation preparation

We are currently research-focused, with system architecture and engineering design work under way, alongside industry discussions and preparations for validation.

Application Areas

More ways to connect a logistics network.

From collection and distribution between hubs and local stations to scheduled transport between nodes, across water or difficult terrain, and to remote facilities, we explore where aerial transport can serve a useful part of a wider logistics journey.

These are potential application areas for our research. Illustrations do not depict transport services already in operation or existing projects.

  1. Hub-to-Local Network Links

Cargo is consolidated at hubs and distributed to local stations; aerial transport must be planned alongside the ground links at both ends.

  2. Scheduled Transport Between Nodes

Dispatch, receiving and the next movement of each cargo batch must fit into one sequence.

  3. Connecting Across Geographic Barriers

Across water or difficult terrain, we explore more direct aerial links between logistics operations on either side.

Collaboration

Start with real operating needs.

We welcome conversations with logistics and infrastructure operators, aircraft developers and engineering partners. Real operating needs, specialist expertise or long-term support can provide a starting point.

About Us

From one node to a more connected logistics journey.

Our research connects handling at nodes, different transport modes and the stages surrounding each journey. Our direction is to make suitable low-altitude transport part of everyday logistics.
